Vedic Hindu Astrology : a Compilation of Ancient Classic Treatises (Part 2)

The timeless wisdom of sages and their authentic knowledge of Hindu astrology are available printed book formats. The original Sutras / Slokas with commentaries in English are the contents of these texts. Certain Websites over Internet allow people to browse or / and download. If you are the student of Vedic Hindu astrology, you will appreciate the wisdom of the Hindu Sages. You will able to realize the profound value of these classics. I have listed out some of the important Vedic Hindu astrological classics for the benefit of AC community. The list is not complete. You are free to update the list by adding some other classics:

1) Ashtakavarga Nibandha by Mukund Daivaignya

2) Bhargava Nadika. A brief work in Sanskrit detailing the key effects of planetary periods.

3) Bhavartha Ratnagar by Ramanujacharya : A work on predictive astrology

4) Bhrigu Sutram by Bhrigu Rishi (Simple suras details at each planet in each house) English Translations are available

5) Brhat samhita by Varahamihira: (5th century AD) in 2 volumes: An encyclopedia of astrology. Deals with planetary movements, eclipses, clouds, rainfall, or any astrological subject. English Translations are available

6) Brihat Jataka by Varahamihira (5th century AD) A classic text with difficult slokas. The author has given a new direction to predictive astrology. English Translations are available

7) Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra by Mahrishi Parasara: (5000 years old) This oldest text is considered as the "bible" of Vedic astrology. This treatise is a dialog between Sage Maitreya and Sage Parashara. The pertinent questions of Sage Maitreya are answered by Sage Parashara.and thus the principles are explained.

9) Chamtkar Chintamani by Narayan Bhatt: Provides few unique formulae to study in depth on the effects of the planets in signs or houses.

10)Daivagyna VallabhaVarahamihira : (5th century AD):

11)Deva Keralam or Chandra Kala Nadi by Achyuta: The work is from Kerala. Includes 8200 slokas. Provides the essence of Nadi Granthas

12)Garga Hora by sage Gargacharya : Do you know that this classic text predates the Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra? Deals with Bhava

13)Hora Prakasha by Punja Raja :

14)Hora Ratnam by Balabhadra: An encyclopedic work

15)Horasara by Prithu Yasas : Varahamihira's son

16)Jataka Alankar by Ganesha : (1613 AD) It is one of the brief classic work

17)Jataka Bharanam by Pandit Dhundiraj: On Dasha Vimushottari

18)Jataka Parijata Vaidyanatha Diskshita: Vidyanatha Dikshita belongs to 14th century and he is believed to be the son of Venkatesa.

19)Jataka Tattva by Mahadeva : (1871 AD) Prented inShuktas. Shuktas speak about five Tatvas 1)Samjna Tatva, 2) Sutika Tatva, 3) Prakirna Tatva 4) Stri Jataka Tatva, 5) Dasa and Antardasa. There are 48 sutras and they are like an encyclopedia.

20)Jatakadesa Marga : The work is from Kerala.

21)Kalaprakasika (I haven't seen this one, but it's recommended by Hart) translated by N.P. Subramaria Iyer

22)Laghu Jataka by Varahamihira (5th century AD)

23)Laghu Parashari Siddanth : Deals the essential principles on how to interpret vimshottari dasa and yoga

24)Madhya Parashari (author unknown) An ancient scripture on Dasa system25)Mana Sagari - paddhati, or Janmapatri - paddhati by Kalyana Rishi : A Jain treatise

26)Muhurta Chinatmani by Rama Daivagya,:Author is considered as brother of Neelakanta. It is a treatise on electoral / muhurta astrology.

27)Phaladeepika by Mantreswara (16th century) the most important classic in Vedic astrology.

28)Prasnamarga byNamboodiri Brahmin:The work is from Kerala.

29)Prasna Tantra by Neelakanta Daivagnya: Belongs to roughly around 1550 AD. It is considered as one of the classic in Prasna or Horary Astrology.

30)Purva Kalamruta by Kalidasa : On Muhurta

31)Sanketa Nidhi by Rama Dayalu: (year 1860) Deals all the Indian astrology subjects. Divided into nine sections or Sanketas.

32)Saravali by Kalyana Varma (10th century AD) (two volume classic) focuses on planets in houses, decanates, etc.) yogas, planetary combinations, effects of planets in rasis & Navamsas, evils at birth & how to cancel them, houses, planetary rays, longevity, moola dasa periods & sub-periods, female horoscopy, lost horoscopy, horas, ashtakavargas Kalyana Varma was an ancient king of Vyaghrapada (c. 900 AD)

33)Sarvartha Chintamani ByVenkatesa: Venkatesa lived in the 13th century.

34)Satya Samhita : Deals with muhurta

35)Sur Samhita : Deals with muhurta

36)Shambhu Hora Punja Raja: (16th century). Text has 1349 Sanskrit verses on Natal astrology

37)Uttara Kalamrita Kalidasa (an excellent book showing themes of each house in depth) English and vernacular Translations are available

38)Vedanga Jyotish by Lagadha

39)Yavana JatakaSage Yavana : Sage Yavana was an astrologer in the Greek court in India
