Vegan Restaurants in Boston

Yes, It's Possible to Eat like Vegan Royalty in Boston

C. R. Nugent
Vegan dining spots are not abundant in Boston, but there are a handful of excellent, vegan-friendly locales for your lunch, dinner and all-important dessert needs. Here are a few destinations, from sweet to spicy, and from comforting to exotic.

Grezzo
Vegan heaven in Boston, this North End restaurant is likely the finest vegan dining experience in the city. If you're new to vegan or raw food diets, consider trying the tasting menu, which will give you a grand tour of soup, pasta, sliders, salads, and even a choice of dessert (including apple pave, brownie sundae, and cheesecake). The menu changes every week, adapting to whatever fresh ingredients are available. Grezzo's space is intimate at its best, and cramped at its worst, so large parties are probably a bad idea.

Veggie Planet
Although it's not a pure vegan restaurant, Veggie Planet's vegetarian menu has an assortment of vegan offerings. Known for their tasty and inventive pizzas, this Harvard Square eatery counts with Vegan Peanut Curry pies in its selection. Additionally, weekend brunch features tofu scramble, vegan waffles topped with fruit and with a side of home fries, and organic tea and coffee.

Oleana Restaurant
A special occasion place for vegans with exotic tastes, Oleana serves up high-end Turkish/Mediterranean cuisine. Although it's not a vegan or vegetarian restaurant, the staff is accommodating and serve excellent vegan options, including a heavenly carrot purée, stuffed roasted artichoke, and falafel infused with hazelnut. If you're interested in menu options that are not vegan, they'll suggest ways to make the dish vegan-friendly. The Inman Square location is a bit removed from central Boston, but the trip is worth it for vegans seeking a Mediterranean dining experience.

Wheeler's Frozen Desserts
This ice cream shop is dedicated to the craft of healthy, wholesome ice cream treats for the vegan crowd. From the traditional flavors of vanilla or butter pecan, to the more experimental teaberry or peanut butter and jelly, Wheeler's is sure to please vegans and their less enlightened friends. If you can't make it to their Massachusetts Avenue location, try checking their blog to see if one of their ice cream trucks is making its rounds near you.
