Vegan Tweets

I've seen varying remarks on the percentage of the population that is actually vegan, but they all seem to fall somewhere between 1.8% and 3%. That's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. In my search for like-minded people, I have found local vegan meet-ups, message boards and blogs, all offering assorted information, recipes and companionship. I have to say that none of these resources even come close to offering the kind of kinship that I've found with other vegans on Twitter. For those unfamiliar, Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging site that allows users to send messages into cyberspace that are 140 characters long, or less. These messages are called Tweets. Users are able to search for keywords, Tweets and other users with tags, like #vegan or #veggie. Those familiar with Twitter will already know what an amazing resource it can be to connect with other vegans and to find information on all things vegan. I follow approximately 250 - 300 vegans on Twitter personally, and wanted to share with you some of my favorites. The Tweeps I am listing here are vegan, educated and embody the attitude of compassion supported by the vegan lifestyle, not only to the animals, but to their fellow human beings as well.

@earthlingsmovie - The feature length documentary about the connection between animals, humans and nature is on Twitter. Follow them for basic vegan info and also for updates on special screenings near you.

@happyherbivore - She's an ex-lawyer, a writer and a vegan you want to keep your eyes on! She is also dogmother to 2 delightful pugs. Lindsay has had her recipes published in the Vegetarian Times and is working on a new cookbook.

@theveganrd - Ginny is a cat rescuer, a vegan nutritionist and one smart lady. She's the one to go to if you have any questions specific to the dietary needs of vegans.

@eatconsciously - He's on the forefront of activism for making veganism the moral baseline and he's published the best vegan quiche recipe I've ever tasted!

@quarrygirl - Only the best vegan blog on the West Coast.

@Indiacarless - She is as sweet as pie and posts some very useful vegan information and recipes.

@vegandogslife - She's got an amazing blog about vegan dogs, how to do it and she features different vegan pups daily.

@leafyv - An Abolitionist Vegan with an attitude of compassion.

@ecovegangal - She's an eco-friendly vegan film maker with an outstanding blog for vegans in LA and all over the world.
