Vegan and Vegetarian Thanksgiving Ideas

Fake Turkey and Beyond

Denise
Whether you are entertaining vegan friends this year, or want to try something new, here are a few ideas you can try. Here are a few things to remember when serving vegetarian or vegan foods.

For Vegetarians
Lacto-Ovo: Eats eggs and dairy products, no meat or seafood.
Lacto: Does not eat eggs, meat and seafood but eats dairy products.
Ovo: Does not eat dairy products, meat, seafood but eats eggs.

Vegans
Do not eat eggs, dairy products, meat or anything derived from an animal.

The best thing to remember is not to serve any vegetarian or vegan any meat or fish products. Things like gelatin, Worcestershire sauce, also should not be served with anything you prepare.

I am vegetarian, but I do not, eat tasteless, rubbery, fake meat substitutes. The best companies that I regularly buy from are Morning Star Farms, Worthington Foods, and Loma Linda. So if you are thinking of turning vegetarian/vegan, buy from those companies first before trying anything else.

Tofurky
A Tofurky is a 'fake' turkey. I've only eaten tofurky once, it was a sub sandwich and was really good. It is made out of soybeans or seitan. It comes with a stuffing, too. Tofurky is baked or oven roasted. You can find out how to prepare it, by checking out the FAQ on this website at www.tofurky.com.

Vegetarian Dinner Roast
I eat this all the time, and this is good! It's made by Worthington Foods. It has wheat, milk soy and egg ingredients. it can be baked in an oven, or a toaster oven.

Smoked Turkey Roll
This is also from Worthington Foods and is really good. It's frozen, so you have to thaw it. All we do after that is just slice it. I'm sure, you can probably be more creative and do more with it.

Chicken Roll
Another product from Worthington Foods, and very good. We just prepare it just like the Smoked Turkey Roll above.

Wham Roll
Worthington Foods, really love making these rolls, and I love them! Wham is just 'fake' ham. We prepare it, just like the other meatless rolls.

Corned Beef Roll
I haven't eaten this in a long time, but I really love it. Another Worthington product worth trying out. Prepare as written above.

Vegetarian Lasagna
There are so many recipes and different ways to make a veggie lasagna. Each time my sister and I make it it's different and seems to improve each time. You can make it light, or rich. Be creative and have fun!
