Vegetarian Diet: Is it the Right One for You?
Its a Big Decision Make Sure You're Doing it for the Right Reasons
Being a vegetarian was once thought of as a fad, a certain someone was trying to make a statement. However as times change this lifestyle has become more prevalent and more and more people are joining the vegetarian revolution.
So the question is, should you be a vegetarian? Well there is no definitive answer. What we have is more of rhetorical question that has a variant of answers. Before deciding on such a course one must considering the reasoning behind such a decision, thus weighing up the numerous changes that this will bring about. Are you ready for such a change?
A vegetarian is categorized as someone that does not eat poultry, fish or any other meat. Such food has been substituted for the likes of vegetables, pulses, and soy based products and other such perishables. If the individual was a vegan, one would find further constraints as these people refrain from eating any food that has an animal origin.
So first consider the reasoning behind the vegetarian trait. Is this a moral objection to the slaughter of animals? Deciding on adopting a healthy diet? Is it more cost effective? Is there a religious conflict? Peer pressure? There is a platitude of possible reasons. But which one do you adhere to?
The most common motivation behind vegetarian attitudes appears to be the moral issue of animal slaughter. For some the thought of this process is unbearable and the implication that they are involved in any way is too much to bear. If you feel this way then there really is little choice.
For those that are seeking a healthier life style one must consider certain implications. The body has natural needs, be it protein or something else. Thinking a vegetarian diet would improve your health is not necessarily correct. One should research the bodies needs and even consult a doctor before making such a drastic change. Make sure you have supplements that your body requires to remain fit and healthy.
If budgetary concerns are responsible for this change of direction, this again can be understandable. Not everyone can afford a trip to the local butcher. However with the vegetarian trend on the upward scale canny merchants are pushing up the price to whom they see as a captive market.
If this is a question of faith then thee really is little choice. Whilst some may find it perplexing, if your religious beliefs call for this kind of indoctrination then you will follow suit.
Finally we come to peer pressure. Are you friends following celebrity patterns or driven by media coverage. All you want to do is fit in? This is a rather scary attitude to such a dramatic change. A sad statement regarding the world we live in.
So to answer the question 'should I become a vegetarian' there is no straight answer. One must consider the reasons you are considering this alteration. Ask not 'should' but 'do I want to'.
The most important aspect is that you remain healthy. That your body is receiving the ingredients it needs to work at maximum potential. Ask questions, research, talk to the doctor. But take that first step with your eyes open and your mind focused.
