Vegetarian Eating in Erie, Pennsylvania

Vegetarian Haven in a Carnivore's World

I have been a vegetarian for over 10 years, so trying this restaurant was a "must" in my book. The location is great for the stereotypical demographic that can be expected to eat here and convenient for anyone wanting to try something different. It's a great fit for the neighborhood, as Grasshopper and Chicory Hill are... within a block, alond with Forward Hall. Despite all the snow banks, parking on the street was easy and close.

The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious. The colorful chalkboard reveals the day's lunch and dinner specials as well as the soup of the day. The menu is small, but filled with items unique to their niche. There is plenty of room for individuality in their veggie-filled pitas (whole wheat, of course) with vegetarian and vegan dressing and cheese options on top. Surprisingly, the chips on the side are standard, Frito Lay branded. The side of soup(12 oz), however, is a great side option, or a larger cup as the main dish. Drink options, not surprisingly, are hot/cold teas, coffee, and water.

The employees are very friendly, and attentive. I should also add patient, because designing your own pita can take a few minutes of option-balancing. The prices are reasonable, if not downright inexpensive compared to the prices of a chain restaurant's lunch. There's no rush to leave with local art-covered wall and a community board to inspire on might find reasons to stay longer in its comfortable ambiance.

I'm thrilled that The Singing Bowl has arrived to fill the hole in Erie's lengthy line up of options and with sushi night on Saturday, I can't wait to go back.
