Vegetarian Refried Beans Review: Rosarita Vegetarian Refried Beans

Even Though These Were Not Organic I Thought that They Tasted Good

For a long time now I have been making my own beans. I buy organic dry beans and I save a lot of money doing this over organic refried beans. Recently I went and stayed at my mom's for a week for a mini vacation and while I was there we had a couple meals that required refried beans. Since I am a vegetarian my mom got vegetarian refried beans, more specifically she got Rosarita Vegetarian Refried Beans. Even when I was buying vegetarian refried beans I couldn't remember getting any from this brand. Honestly the only kind of refried beans that I can remember getting are Amy's Vegetarian Organic Refried Beans. I am sure that the only reason that I was passing these over was because of the fact they were not organic. Pushing their non-organic feature aside I was eager to try the Rosarita Vegetarian Refried Beans.

It has been a long time since I have bought any refried beans but I thought that the cost of ninety-two cents for a can was not a bad price at all. The can of Rosarita Vegetarian Refried Beans contained about one and three-fourths cups of refried beans, or roughly three and a half servings. I saw this when I was studying the nutrition facts of the refried beans where I learned what a half of a cup of these refried beans contained. In each serving there is one hundred and twenty calories with only twenty calories from fat. Each serving contains five hundred and forty milligrams of sodium, three hundred and ninety milligrams of potassium, nineteen grams of carbohydrates, six grams of fiber, less than one gram of sugars and six grams of protein. In the minerals and vitamins section of the nutrition facts it listed calcium with two percent, iron, magnesium and phosphorus with ten percent and manganese with fifteen percent. I thought that these nutrition facts were pretty good and I hoped to find good ingredients.

Aside from not being organic I thought that the ingredients of the Rosarita Vegetarian Refried Beans were actually pretty good. The vegetarian refried beans are made up mostly of cooked beans and water with less than two percent of canola oil, salt, distilled vinegar, chile pepper, onion powder, spices, garlic powder and natural flavor. The can did say that there was trace amounts of fat in the beans as well, which was a little bit disappointing. Overall though I didn't have any complaints about the nutrition facts or the ingredients. The taste of the Rosarita Vegetarian Refried Beans was not bad either. I thought that they tasted very good on their own and if you are into spicing your refried beans up these work as a nice base as well. As far as I could tell these beans were pretty great. Thinking about it I suppose that if I went back to getting refried beans and started getting non-organic refried beans I would choose these beans. I would recommend them for their nutrition facts, ingredients and tastes to anyone that didn't mind that they were not organic. I also thought that their price was very, very good. I believe that they come in a bigger size and by getting the bigger size you will save money, which is excellent if you use more than one and three-fourths cup at a time. My mom who is not a vegetarian enjoyed the Rosarita Vegetarian Refried Beans very much as well and my son who hasn't had refried beans in a very long time absolutely loved them. So if we are grandma's and we have them I think that is great. For now though I will stick to making my own organic beans from scratch.
