Vegetarian Sandwich Review: Boca in a Bun Chik'n & Swiss Sandwich
This Sandwich was Small Making it a Tasty Snack
When it comes to making a convincing meatless chicken I have to give the Boca company credit because they have one of the best. The Boca in a Bun Chik'n & Swiss Sandwich was no exception. The "chicken" patty that was used in the sandwich tasted very much like the real thing. In fact its believability was even more convincing than I remembered and the texture was pretty good too. I thought that it tasted very good. The swiss cheese didn't contain any holes and was not nearly as strong as what I remember swiss cheese to taste like but I still thought that it tasted good as well. Now as for the bun I wasn't sure what to expect considering that it was one hundred percent whole wheat but it was actually really good as well. It was not hearty as well and the overall sandwich with all of its different components was a very nice snack.
The one thing that made the Boca in a Bun Chik'n & Swiss Sandwich a snack and not a lunch was its size. It was not the size of a burger and of course was no near the size of a piece of bread. The box only contained two sandwiches but it was only two dollars. At a dollar a sandwich I didn't think that it was a horrible price or anything. I was a little bit disappointed that the sandwiches were not larger but if they had been I am sure that the box of Boca in a Bun Chik'n & Swiss Sandwiches would have been much more so I can't really complain. As always I had to look over the box to review the nutrition facts and the ingredients of these sandwiches.
The ingredients of the Boca in a Bun Chik'n & Swiss Sandwich's breaded meatless soy protein patties are water, soy protien concentrate, soy protein isolate, textured wheat protein consisting of wheat gluten and wheat flour and the patties also contain less than two percent of wheat gluten, yeast extract, methylecculose, salt, spices that include black pepper, natural flavor that is non-meat, hydrolyzed soybean and corn protein, hydrolyzed corn gluten, onion powder, sugar, succinic acid and thiamine hydrochloride. The batter of the patties consists of water, wheat flour, yellow corn flour and salt and the breading consist of wheat flour, dextrose, salt, dried yeast, caramel color, yellow corn flour, extractives of paprika and annatto for color and the patties are browned in corn oil.
Now the buns of the sandwich are made from whole wheat flour, sugar, soybean oil, wheat gluten and contain less than two percent of salt, yeast, mono and diglycerides, enzyme modified soy lecithin, xanthan gum, guar gum, sodium stearoyl lactylate, artificial flavor and enzymes. I found it odd that the buns had mono and diglycerides in them because this is not always vegetarian. Lastly the cheese in the Boca in a Bun Chik'n & Swiss Sandwich was made from part-skim milk, cheese culture, salt, enzymes, water, sodium phosphate, salt, sodium citrate, sorbic acid as a preservative and milkfat. All in all I thought that the ingredients were okay but I hoped to like the nutrition facts much better.
In one of the Boca in a Bun Chik'n & Swiss Sandwiches you get three hundred and fifty calories with one hundred and twenty calories from fat. The sandwich contains ten milligrams of cholesterol and seven hundred and ninety milligrams of sodium. There is also six grams of both fiber and sugar in each sandwich as well as forty-four grams of carbohydrates and twenty grams of protein. I was very pleased at the protein content in the sandwich and was also pleased that the nutrition facts listed both calcium and iron with twenty percent and vitamin A with four percent. While I thought that the Boca in a Bun Chik'n & Swiss Sandwich was a nice snack I don't plan on getting it regularly. I would recommend for anyone to try it out though.
