VegNat's Tasty Soy Nuts: A Healthy Topping & Food Snack Review

Add Soy Nuts to a Salad, or Enjoy Them as a Snack

While I was searching for greens for my salad at my local supermarket, I noticed a display for VegNat's Tasty Soy Nuts. There were two flavors available, regular and sea salt. Always looking for tasty topping for my salads, I picked up the blue packaged sea salt flavor.

The bag explains that the soy nuts are "the mother of healthy snacks." The soy nuts are a good source of potassium and calcium, plus are high in protein, low in sodium and cholesterol-free. VegNat also explains that the soy nuts contain 40% less fat than peanuts.

The back of the bag further explains the health benefits of soy, which include the aforementioned calcium. The calcium is great for keeping teeth and bones strong and healthy. Soy also can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. Soy also contains antioxidants.

All of that sounded pretty good to me, but I couldn't wait to get home to try the soy nuts out on my salad. I mean, if I can benefit that much just my sprinkling some soy nuts on my salad, sign me up.

I am always trying new ways to make salad. On this occasion, I made a bed of spinach and lettuce and topped it with crunchy bean sprouts, shredded mozzarella cheese and carrot chips. Then, I sprinkled on the sea-salt soy nuts. I topped it with my favorite salad dressing, peppercorn parmesan. I had some cottage cheese on the side to round out my lunch.

The soy nuts really made my salad extra tasty, as well as added a different texture to it. The soy nuts are a bit harder than a peanut so it took a while to get used to biting down on them, as I am not used to something that hard in a salad. It really was a nice touch. Since it was doused in dressing and mixed with other veggies, I thought I could not get the best handle on how they tasted. So, I ate a few that were not in the salad, right from the bag. They were pretty good- a nice salty flavor, but not overpowering.

That said, the soy nuts also make for a good, healthy snack. I do like to snack on peanuts and have found Planter's Energy Mix to be a great choice. However, I would also eat VegNat's Soy Nuts as a snack while working. The small bag would fit nicely in a desk drawer and would be a nice alternative to something in the vending machine! The soy nuts may also be good on a wrap or sandwich.

VegNatFoods.com states that there are several other flavors to choose from such as chipotle and barbeque, two flavors that add an extra zip to soy nuts as a snack food. The soy nuts come in a two different sizes, too. VegNat also makes Veggie Crunch, which are like potato chips, only made from vegetables.
