A little over three years ago I began using the Venus brand of razor blades to shave my legs, mostly because my husband was tired of me using his razor. I was very impressed when they came out with the Divine razor series. It was the closest shave I think I have ever had to date. Then about two months ago I saw the new Venus Breeze at the warehouse store here in town and the refills were much cheaper than the Divine so I decided to give them a try. The main difference between the Venus Divine and the Venus Breeze is that the Breeze has long lasting moisture strips and you do not need to use shave gel when using the Breeze at all. They both have three blades and an incredibly close shave. In this article I will be comparing three different aspects that I look for when I buy a razor. I will be comparing closeness of shave, moisture strips, and cost effectiveness.
Closeness of Shave
As I had mentioned before I had been using the Venus Divine for a little over three years when I bought the Breeze and did not think I could have a closer shave than I had with the Divine. I was very wrong. Not only does the Breeze give a closer shave on my legs but I also have more days in between shaving now than I did with the Venus Divine. It takes a couple of days for me to notice stubble on my legs and that is such a plus when you are a busy person and do not have time to shave every single day. On the down side, the Breeze does not do a good job at all with my under arm area. The Breeze is the answer to Schick's Intuition that claims that there is no need for shave gel because of the moisture strips. The problem with the Breeze is that the strips are intrusive and bulky and make it very hard to shave in tight spots. The strips are somewhat flexible but I have found myself needing to use a touch up razor to get the last remaining hairs because the head is not flexible enough with the moisture strips to get everything. Between the two razors I am comparing I would have to give the Venus Breeze a two out of five for closeness of shave and the Venus Divine a four out of five. The Breeze is great on legs but not on the underarms and the Divine is great for both areas a woman normally shaves.
Moisture Strips
The moisture strip is very important to me because it basically decides whether or not you need to buy shave gel or some other kind of shaving aid to help you get a close shave. In this category the Venus Breeze has the Divine beat by a landslide. I always had to buy an additional shaving aid when I used the Divine because the moisture strip lasted maybe five minutes in the shower. There is no need for additional shave gel when you use the Breeze because of the long lasting moisture strips. They are good until you change out the head when the razor becomes dull. I even used it for a touch up out of the shower and I did not get razor burn because of the moisture strips. I just ran the head under water in the sink and it lathered up really nicely and I got just as much of a close shave outside of the shower as I did in with no need of another shaving aid. Between the two razors the Breeze ranks five out of five and the Divine is a one out of five in moisture.
Cost Effectiveness
If I had not seen the Venus Breeze at my local warehouse superstore I probably would not have bought them to try, and I will probably not buy them again. The Venus refills, no matter what, are pricy. The plus with the Divine is though; I can use the heads for at least two weeks before they become dull. With the Breeze I can only use the razor twice, maybe three times, before I get razor burn from the blades being dull. I bought the Breeze because it was a good deal at the time, but it has turned out to be more expensive than buying the Divine because after only two months of use, I have gone through an entire 12 pack of razor heads. With the Divine I go through a four pack in two months. I do not know why the blades dull quicker with the Breeze, I am guessing it is because of the gel like moisture strips that are on it, but I have no hard proof of that. The Breeze cost me almost 30 dollars to buy the refill heads and I am wishing I could get most of my money back on that. With the Breeze you do not have to buy shave gel or any other kind of shaving aid, but even then, the Divine is still cheaper overall. Between the two razors the Breeze ranks one out of five and the Divine ranks four out of five for cost effectiveness.
If money were no object I would have no problem buying the Breeze again, but overall I think I will stick to the Divine until something better comes around.
