Venus Williams' French Open Outfit Redux U.S. Open Style

Women's Tennis Apparel Doubles as Club Clothes

Venus Williams' French Open outfit was criticized for being risqué. Now Venus Williams, who turned 30 on June 17 and who advances in the U.S. Open to play Francesca Schiavone in the quarter-finals, does it again in a sparkly pink and black number perfect for a New York night club. Says Venus Williams, "This outfit was supposed to be about New York. It's like bursts of fireworks."

Does it matter if Venus Williams' French Open outfit or her U.S Open outfit are risque?

If you're a great tennis player, does it matter what you wear? The style of tennis outfits has changed over the years, especially for women. Venus Williams is not only a tennis player, she owns the interior design firm V*Starr and she's also a fashion designer with her own clothing line, EleVen. If you're a tennis star/entrepreneur who is interested in more than just tennis, why not indulge your other passions? If an outfit is permitted on a tennis court, no matter how different it is from other outfits, what's the crime?

Venus Williams' French Open outfit and her U.S. Open outfit take the focus off her wins

The main problem with Venus Williams' fashion choices is that if she wins, the focus is still on the clothes. But for a person who has won at every major tennis tournament, owns gold medals from the Olympics and who has ranked number 1 in the world more than once in the past, what more does she have to prove?

Hi Jolie, the Williams sisters wear some of the craziest clothes but I think that makes tennis all the more interesting.
