Vera Baker's Official Role with Obama in Doubt

Was Vera Baker, the woman at the center of the National Enquirer's story on President Barack, Obama's finance director in his 2004 Illinois senate campaign?

There are various reports this morning that Vera Baker has been said to have been Obama's Finance Director in his successful senate campaign, and that she was paid. And yet, according to a report on Freerepublic.com, filings with the Federal Election Campaign show Claire Serdiuk as the actual Finance Director for the Obama campaign.

So what role, exactly, did Vera Baker play? Were there two Finance Directors in effect? Possibly; that arrangement would hardly be unprecedented.

But the path that Vera Baker's career and travels have taken sense are only serving to add to the speculation this weekend that something about the Barack Obama and Vera Baker relationship does not add up.

Several sources have said that Michelle Obama did not want Vera Baker anywhere near her husband. A short while after the 2004 campaign, Vera Baker was suddenly in New York City. A while later, she claimed to be a bond trader in Chicago, though there is no record of her having ever lived in the Chicago area during the time that she says she was there.

Finally, Vera Baker suddenly was living on the island of Martinique; before returning to Washington DC recently. Many have speculated that somehow Baker's relocation to Martinique was arranged by Michelle Obama as a means to keep her away from her husband.

At certain stages of scandals, it makes sense for the people involved to lay low and stay out of the public spotlight. Many times, particularly when there really is nothing to the story to begin with, staying out of sight will lead to also being out of mind.

That time appears to have run out for Vera Baker. As the National Enquirer and a Swiss newspaper are reporting that they believe Barack Obama and Vera Baker are having an affair, fairly or not she will now be asked very specific questions concerning her very specific role with the Obama campaign. She will also be asked very specific questions about her whereabouts and career path since the campaign ended, over five years ago now.

While Vera Baker has every right to not answer questions about her role as Finance Director on the Obama 2004 campaign, the smartest thing to do for her, is to answer all questions accurately and completely. Vera Baker's phone undoubtedly is ringing off the hook right now; it is her decision as to whether or not help this Presidential affair story go away fast or allow it to grow.
