In a move that bucks current trends to offshore telemarketing jobs to countries other than the U.S., Verizon Wireless committed to building its newest customer service and support center in Huntsville Alabama. Governor Bob Riley called it a "great day" for the city of Huntsville and the state of Alabama.
Verizon Wireless will build the $44 million, 152,000 square-foot facility in Huntsville's high-tech Cummings Research Park. Ground breaking is expected before the end of 2006. Full operations are expected to begin before the end of 2007. At full capacity, the Verizon will employ 1,300 people at this call center.
This latest announcement adds to the growth that Huntsville is already experiencing due to the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) actions earlier this year. It is estimated that the BRAC changes will bring 15,000 jobs to Huntsville by 2010. The signs of growth are already evident in the booming real estate market and new housing starts.
The Huntsville city government and the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce are planning for the growth and changes with some pro bono help from Booz-Allen-Hamilton (BAH), one of the countries largest government consulting companies. BAH has offered its services for free to assist in city planning, specifically new school, fire, and police coverage.

Post a CommentCome on Verizon, brick and mortar call centers are so, uncool man. Support the virtual office, the telecommuter, the work-from-home-er! It is the wave of the future, man. It is Happenin'! Stay cool and groovy.
pssst... >come here .. hey you ... verizon< pssst .. lend me yer ear .. if ya lean a little closer I can tell you more than a handful of people all across American boarders and in between that are already set up remotely with all their own equipment .. all you have to do is pay them by the hour and your building/mangement ovehead can be set to a bare minimum!! You wouldn't need the 152k sq ' to house all those people !!
Good job Verizon
