Verizon in Line to Get IPhone?

What Could This Mean for Verizon, or Better Yet, AT&T?

Jason Spansel
The iPhone from Apple has been king of cell phones for quite a while now. Apple has held the market at bay with this widely popular phone and given exclusive rights to AT&T to market and sell the phone. So far, AT&T has been the only company to sell the phone since its launch in 2007. Verizon and other CDMA networks may very well get a hot share of that market!

But what would this mean for both companies?

Verizon got a nice jump in their stocks of more than 4% simply on the rumor of Apple releasing the iPhone. No confirmation, simply a rumor! On the other end of the spectrum...AT&T's stock dropped down by more than 2%.

Would users switch from AT&T to use the iPhone on Verizon's network? There have been many complaints of AT&T's network faults. Verizon is not perfect either, but their reputation seems to hold a higher standard than other carriers. If the iPhone added to their stable, it may just make them invincible!

If Apple releases the iPhone, it can only gain sales. To release this on CDMA networks, other carriers as well as Verizon may get their own iPhone. I for one, would like to have an iPhone, but I do not want to leave my dear Verizon. This is a big step in the right direction for Apple if it wants to further its profits.

The iPhone is facing stiff new competition, especially from the Droid. If it wants to compete, I dont see any other way than opening up to other networks. Just adding Verizon to their sales would open them up to over 80 million new customers. That is a lot of customers. This undoubtedly though would cause a great blow to AT&T. Verizon and AT&T have been in great bouts as you have most likely seen on their advertising campaigns. This would indeed put Verizon on top and win that bout. Apple has been the main reason AT&T has had such a monopoly on the smart phone market. Without Apple, AT&T would most likely be at the bottom of the competition.

This is not the first time though that we have heard such a rumor of Apple allowing other networks their iPhone. So we may never know until we get confirmation from Apple themselves, as they are the only ones right now who know for sure.
