Vermont's Best Fall Foliage: Where to Go and When

Drew Bush
That's right, everyone, the official start of the fall season is only a little more than a month away. With this wonderful season come cooler temperatures and some beautiful tree colors. I have lived in Nevada now for the last eight years (over 12 years total) and do not get to view the gorgeous fall foliage. The nearest place to view it is an hour and a half from my home. About thirteen years ago, I lived in New Jersey and had many opportunities to see the leaves turn orange, yellow and red. I even went to upstate New York one year during the late summer (it was much cooler than average at that time) and saw some beautiful scenery. Fall is really a beautiful time of year.

Today I will focus on the beautiful fall foliage tours in Vermont. Being farther north, the trees start changing color much earlier than they do in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. The trees start changing color during the month of September and the peak may occur sometime in the first week of October. According to Foliage-Vermont.com, people should try to stay along and south of route US 2 and along route 100 from route US 4 north to route 15.

There a number of wonderful inns and bed and breakfasts to choose from in Vermont. One such place is the Black Bear Inn. This wonderful in is located only minutes away from Montpelier and Burlington. The Inn offers a number of wonderful packages to choose from including a romance package, family package, golfing package, and a massage package. Many of the packages contain a breakfasts each morning and even a free dinner. The rates depend on the time of the year. For those who want to see the fall foliage, low season typically runs from October 19th through December 24th, the regular season runs from June 19th through September 17th, and the high season runs from September 17th through October 18th. Of course the high season is the best time to see the best fall colors. For more information on directions, go to the Black Bear Inn website.

Another wonderful inn to choose from is the Mountain View Inn. This inn looks like an old fashioned farm house and is located just thirty miles from Burlington, Vermont and is even closer to Montpelier, Vermont. It is located on three acres and is surrounded by lush vegetation. It is a great place to go to see the beautiful fall colors and go skiing in the winter. The rates are very affordable and the rooms are very elegant and look like the real bed and breakfast. The rates run at around $130 per night. One of the top breakfasts provided the Mountain View Inn is blueberry pancakes with pure Vermont Maple syrup. This is a great place for a family or couple to stay. For more information on directions, go to the Mountain View Inn website.

There are many great restaurants around Vermont. One of these restaurants is the Easy Street Café and Market. It is located in the Mad River Valley only minutes away from Montpelier and is open seven days a week. The café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Just a few of the items served include freshly made muffins, croissants, soups, salads, sandwiches, baked cookies, and cakes. Enjoy your stay in Vermont! For more information on directions, go to the restaurant website.

Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine have gorgeous autumn colors and they're the best states to visit in the Fall. I used to live in Massachusetts and miss the Fall foliage every year!
