The U.S. observes Veterans Day 2010 on Thursday November 11th. Veterans Day honors those who have served the military. America showers the past or present veteran with appreciation and Veterans Day freebies. The only thing a soldier has to do is prove he or she has served or is serving the military (such as a military ID).

For the military dad or mom it is always nice to make a picture, bake Veterans Day cookies or a cake (with adult supervision), or create a unique red, white, and blue snack dish of their favorite treats sitting on red, white and blue napkins.

Patriotic movies with a backbone that may appeal to a military soldier can include "Saving Private Ryan", "Black Hawk Down", "GI Jane", "The Hunting Party", "Top Gun", "Braveheart", "Full Metal Jacket", "The Patriot", or even the hilarious "Tropic Thunder".

    As a veteran myself I appreciate the thrust of your article, but I found Blue Mountain to be unethical in the past and will never deal with them or patronize them again.

    Good article, Lori, I am covering Veterans Day for our local newspaper - and several businesses (like the Car Wash offering a free wash!) are giving the Vets the credit that they deserve. Good job on this, cheers ;)
