Veteran's Day Lesson Plans for Kindergarten Students

Veterans Day is a federal holiday, but our little ones are unaware of the soldiers fighting a war. There are many families torn apart with a parent overseas. Teachers can teach our preschoolers the value of freedom.

Teachers have the opportunity with these lesson plans to teach kindergarten students the importance of freedom and to be thankful.

Packages are a great way to show thanks for our troops' courage. These are gifts of appreciation. These care packages send love and support to them from home. Soldiers often do not have essentials to survive. The essentials in the care packages include toothpaste, bars of soap, candy bars and various other health and food products. These packages show them they are loved and cared for.

A letter written to a solider speaks volumes. A simple thank you is a powerful phrase. Words have a way of touching our lives and hearts. The students can draw pictures for them. Handwritten letters are more personal than typed ones.

Guest speakers bring the world of war to our front door. Speakers can tell students the rewarding side of being in the military. The soldiers can thank them in person. This opportunity is great for not only the students, but for the teachers as well.

The American flag is a big part of our history. It represents a great deal to our soldiers. Students can create their American flags. White construction paper, red, blue markers and a ruler is all they need for this lesson plan. They can follow the design of an American flag from a photograph. Teachers can make this lesson plan easier by having a coloring page already printed out for them to color.

The world is a big place. The countries involved in the war are often not viewed as the beautiful countries they are. Teachers can incorporate the countries into a lesson plan. This lesson plan can include learning about the countries and learning about the culture. They can color maps to see where on the globe they are.

Lesson plans for Veteran's Day teaches young children about the importance of freedom and values. Students will love to learn about Veteran's Day came about and why it is so important to be thankful for the freedom and the soldiers for a fighting a war.
