Vice President Joe Biden Misunderstands the Quip

Vice President Biden Upset at Custard Shop Manager's Tax Comment. Epic Fail!

Donald Pennington
Have you seen it? You know, the video that shows Vice President Joe "F-Bomb" Biden taking several minutes to come back at a custard shop manager's comment about taxes, and the best he can come up with is to call the man a smart a$$.

According to New York Daily News, June 27th edition, Vice President Biden was visiting Milwaukee's "Kopp's Frozen Custard," while talking about jobs. The video footage shows our number two man having a good time, even scooping his own custard. That's when it happened.

Once America's VP was ready to leave, he asked manager Scott Borkin how much he owed. It was then Mr Borkin replied "Don't worry, it's on us." He immediately added: "Lower our taxes and we'll call it even." Maybe he should've made that reply first.

Vice President Joe "Beep" Biden seemed at first to merely shrug the quip on taxes off as smooth as water off a duck's butt. Then, a few minutes later Joe-Not-The-Plumber came back not so much with a "quip," but more like a "slowp" of "Why don't you say something nice instead of being a smarta$$ all the time? Say something nice." The poor guy seemed so overly sensitive I nearly thought he was a relative. (See? Self-deprecation: It's like a condom when your mouth screws you.)

As the author of this posting, and as a professional nobody, might I offer His Royal (Beepity - Beep - Beep - Beep) a pointer? If the "comeback" isn't right there, at the right moment, just let it go. It's not supposed to buy a round-trip ticket, sir. Whether the delay is brain-freeze, or the ache of actually being Obama's first pick, just let it go. The moment was lost. No amount of whispering "I'm just kidding," to Mr Borkin will help you recover the lost face.

Mr Biden, you didn't come across as a brilliant verbal combatant at all. You looked hurt and cranky. You came off, to me anyway, as if Your Eminence (not to be confused with Eminem...or M & Ms) was on a power trip and demanding obeisance from the peasantry. Now, President Obama? He would've called the guy a smart-a$$ immediately, and with the right tone of voice. Try that, and watch those f-bombs Vice President Biden.

  • Vice President Joe Biden's mealy mouthedness is literally historical.
  • Joe "F-Bomb" Biden seems not-so-skilled at a quick retort.
  • The Vice President almost makes Obama seem truly intelligent...almost.
Slow Joe Biden seemed more hurt than "just kidding," over Scott Borkin's tax quip at Kopp's Custard, outside of Milwaukee.

These guys all have an attitude like they walk on water. Biden is the guy who refused to prosecute the killers in the Waco case. I'll never forget him for that. I remember what he said in the hearing. He is evil personified.

I really like Biden, been following his career for decades, but he really needs to think before he talks! I've never seen him as bad as he's been the past couple years!

Biden should hurry up and find a way to debate Sarah Palin again. Thet seems to be the only context when he does not come off as a fool (by comparison).

Talk to your congress person and let them know where you want the money to go.. There doesn't necessarily need to be an increase in taxes, just reallocation in my opinion.

It could've Loki...but come on! He blew this one. Yup. I'm all for food stamps. I like that program and would support it even if it required an extra donation.

Of all people Don, I would think you would appreciate taxes. If I remember correct you have a very special place in your heart that is government funded. That means we bought it with our taxes. If it wasn't government funded then it should be and in that case we need to speak with our politians and let them know where we want our money to go. (= I give props to Biden, even though I think he looks like the devil (not as much as the pope), if it was bothering him why not go back and discuss it. It could have started a healthy discussion..

If he gets comments like that wherever he goes, then why not lower taxes?

  • Linda StCyr7/2/2010

haha... I thought it was a pretty good comeback. I feel for him. He probably gets comments like that wherever he goes.

Thanks for the giggles. I enjoyed your take.

I enjoyed reading this. I kind of agree with those who say the Pres. and VP probably shouldn't call people smart asses, not really presidential (or vice presidential). Maybe ole Joe couldve carried off the remark with better timing, but it came off badly. I think maybe Joe should repaint the Whitehouse basement, keep him under wraps..
