Victimized in Your Own Home

Assault Should Be Taken Seriously

VOffie
Recently someone that was close to me was sexually assaulted in her own apartment. the man said he was from maintainance so she didn't think about it. It being cold outside she closed the door and turned around only to see a gun in her face. she was told if she did what he told her to do he wouldn't use the gun on her.

what would you do in this situation? Her mind raced with ideas, but not good ones. She could grab the gun, and take the chance of being shot or she could try to run. this is the choice that she chose. But it was in vain. the man grabbed her by the hair and tore her shirt all at the same time.

My friend, decided to do whatever the man said crying the entire time. After the assault he shoved her against her coffee table where she hit her head and blacked out. When she did come around the assailant was gone but her door was unlocked. She was absolutely terrified.

She found her cell phone and called 911 which came to her assistance. Even though they waid who they were she was still afraid they were lying. Hysterics was all she had on her mind.

Once at the hospital her nightmare began all over again. The questions, the examination, the entire ordeal got to her. She was released from the hospital and the very next day she was asked to go to the police department so someone could make a sketch as she described the man. Can you imagine the torment of this poor woman?

Then she had an appointment to go to the crisis center. There, once again she had to tell her story from the beginning to the end. Now what I don't understand is if her story was the same every time then why make her tell it over again? Don't these people ever get together?

It got so badly she tried to commit suicide thinking it was her fault for letting the man in, even though he posed as a maintenance man. She still believed it was her fault. Guess what? when she admitted and under suicide watch ,she had to tell her story all over again to the hospital psychiatric doctor. What a crock! She was finally released and sent home with medication, as if to say "You'll be just fine." or take these aspirin and call me in the morning. Her emotions were so confused, she doesn't by any means trust anyone and to make it even harder she is in the same apartment.

The only good thing is her boyfriend is standing beside her the entire time and is willing to get her out of there and move somewhere else. Maybe I am the only woman that feels as if there needs to be a few changes made in cases like this. My friend will be dealing with this for some time and to constantly have to relive it is worse than it the man had shot her. And those are her words not mine!
