Victoria Lindsay Beating Copycat Kids Age 12-14

Is it the Parents Fault?

According to an Associated Press article, some young middle school kids beat-up a 12-year-old girl while trying to copy the Victoria Lindsay beating video that is all over the internet right now. These Clarksville, Indiana girls aged 12-14 lured the victim into a parking lot beside a warehouse in a town just north of Louisville, Kentucky. They videotaped the beating and then posted it on the video sharing site called Photobucket.

Victoria Lindsay was attacked on video for the internet in revenge for making negative online postings, and so was this newest 12-year-old victim. Unlike Victoria Lindsay's Florida beating, the Indiana authorities are not releasing the names of the minor-aged children involved.

The beating victim's father is a police officer, and the Associated Press article claims that all of the attackers have not been questioned yet, and that no charges have been filed against anybody. The attack happened on April 12, 2008 and these claims are being made days later on April 19, 2008. This whole story has left me with all kinds of questions.

First, these children traveled about 6-miles away from home to do this beating in Kentucky. How did they get there? Did these kids walk or bike ride a 12-mile round trip for this beating? That sounds pretty far for the kids to be walking or bicycle riding by choice. When my girls were in junior high school, I tried to get them to bike with me on a favorite 5-mile round trip ride, and neither was ever happy about the last two miles.

My next question is the obvious one; why aren't the Indiana authorities questioning the attackers instantly, and why isn't that police officer father pressing any charges? You would think that everybody on the video would have had to answer questions about their part in the video by now, to somebody - even if the father is trying to be nice by not pressing formal charges on the young girls. The school can not do anything about punishment because it was not a school day or a school activity.

In my first article about the Victoria Lindsay beating, I had many nasty-toned comments from readers suggesting that everything was the parents fault. Now, we have a police officer parent involved, and these younger girls were all friends before the beating took place; this sounds different than the single-parent or grandparent homes in the Victoria Lindsay beating. Is it still all the parents fault? Or, should we maybe blame violence in the media on this one?

My vote on both cases is violence in the media as the culprit. If nobody was online to host bad videos, the kids would not have any ideas about making one. MySpace, YouTube, and all others like them need to start monitoring their sites and get rid of this negative stuff instantly when they see it being posted, or this revenge situation over postings will just keep happening.

How about we blame the children? Line them all up and take the belt to their rear-ends. Afterall, the parents weren't the ones beating people up.
