Victoria Theatre hosting rare Opera
Neighborhood: Mission District
San Francisco, CA 94114
United States of America
Enduring several decades of trends and changes, the Victoria Theater is still open in the Mission district. It seats 480 people. When it first opened in the early 1900s, it was known as Brown's Opera House. In 1914, it was operated as a film house for new shorts, and black and white tales to break though as motion pictures. Until 1964, it operated as just that. For the next 13 years, it was the city's famed burlesque arena for odd and explicit shows.

Now, it is a stage performance hall for both normal and rare shows. Like the one there now, Jerry Springer's Opera, running from Sept. 10 to Oct. 16, 2010. The show is in its 10th year, and just returned from a run in London. Winning multiple awards out of the country, it is a well-renowned event, according to critics from local web blogs and news sources. Tickets may still be purchased for the closing shows by calling 1-800-838-3006. The Victoria Theater is located at 2961 16th St.
