Hot Springs during the winter has an old fashioned feel. The downtown area host many events starting with a lighting ceremony of their own. Each lamppost and building downtown is lit with many lights and adorned in wreaths for the winter season. You can begin you trip into the past with a stroll through Hot Springs National Park. The park is home to many trails through beautiful rock outcroppings. Even though it is winter you will not be cold because, among the rocks there are natural springs of extremely warm water. As you walk along the path, you can see steam coming from the rocks and feel the heat from them all around you.
As you walk to the end of the path you will end up on Bathhouse Row. Hot Springs has always been known for its bathhouses. As you stroll through the past in the winter air you should tour a couple of bathhouse. They are interesting and the antique setting is wonderful to see. It really transports you back into the past. Each are houses plaques with information on how each room was used. There is even an antique elevator still in operation that you can take to the other floors. If you have the time and money one of the bathhouse is still in operation. Stop and enjoy what it has to offer for the money you can spend.
The perfect finish to a night like this is to take a carriage ride. During the winter in downtown Hot Springs, there are carriage rides through the park. Bathhouse row is on main street so after you visit the bathhouses you should hitch a ride on the carriage. It is another adventure into the past of Victorian winters. You cover up with a blanket and enjoy the journey through Hot Springs downtown and the park area. It is a peaceful, thought provoking ride that can take you on a trip through history. All you need is hot apple cider and someone by your side for the perfect trip.
Hot Springs during the winter is lovely and historic. It is the perfect place to melt away the worries of our fast paced world and blend into the Victorian days, where only the simple things matters. Grab you coat, get dressed up, and promenade through the National Park, down the bathhouse row, and finish you trip up in a horse drawn cart. There is nothing quite like the experience you get from taking this adventure in Hot Springs. The past comes alive in the winter here and you can really see the Victorian glow.
