Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Berry Latte - Product Review

At Least It's Shiny

Layla A.
When I was a teen, I was mostly a drugstore makeup user. At the time, this was the most expensive gloss I had ever gotten at $7. Looking back at that purchase now, was it worth it? Highly debatable.

COLOR

What first attracted me to the Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Berry Latte was the cool pink and purple swirls in the tube. In the packaging, this product is a gem. However, when applied, it is extremely sheer. Even when applying multiple coats, you still get almost no color out of this. It does give a great glossy sheen, but when I am paying for the pretty swirls in the tube, I want some pigmentation! This is a great almost clear gloss to put over a matte lipstick, but alone? Maybe for someone under 10 years of age...

FORMULA

The Beauty Rush lip glosses are super shiny which makes them super fun. However, they are pretty sticky. As sticky as a MAC Dazzleglass? Pushing it... But, I still cannot get over the fact that when this is first applied, little lines of product go between lips when smacked. It does not last a very long time on the lips, but you will get a sticky feeling on them for hours after the product has faded. So sticky that if an untamed hair gets in your face, it is sure to stick, regardless of how much product is left on your lips.

FUNCTIONALITY

This is in tube form, so it is great for on the go and one-handed application. The tube is a good size to be in a purse and can also fit in a pocket comfortably. You will have to apply it every thirty minutes or so, but I guess the shine is worth it?

PACKAGING

The packaging is nothing spectacular- a clear tube with silver writing and a silver cap. With the swirl versions, such as this one, it does provide a peek at what the product should look like and makes it appealing to prospective buyers. There is no resistance when squeezing it to get product out and it doesn't come out too fast. Overall, the packaging is the highest point.

PRICE

These retail for $7 by themselves, but you will frequently find deals such as 3 for $15 and 5 for $25. Honestly, I cannot get behind buying this one. I have found much better glosses for less than this and would rather save my money to get something of good quality from Victoria's Secret.

SMELL

Since this flavor is Berry Latte, this smells like berries and coffee. While it is a nice idea, the scent is a little overpowering and the flavors almost don't go together. I like where they were going, b ut they didn't quite make it there.

FINAL OPINIONS

Overall, these are a pass. I think they are great for younger girls just starting to like makeup- I know I was in love with mine when I was younger. I think you can find better glosses for less money or get better products from Victoria's Secret. However, if you do want to buy one of these, they can be found at victoriassecret.com and Victoria's Secret stores. The shine really is great, but if it's going to be clear, advertise it as clear. This was a letdown.
