Good Food on Fulton

The word is out, thanks to Brownstoner, that the little shop at 920 Fulton Street will soon be Brooklyn Victory Garden (BVG).

According to its FaceBook Info, BVG will sell "meats, gifts, cheeses and more that are Local, Ethical and Sustainable."

I'm not 100% sure what the owners mean by ethical and sustainable, but I'm sure they will make it clear to their neighbors and potential customers in the near future.

Right now, they are busy fixing the place up. And there's something to be said for the way they're doing it...the old-fashioned way. They're getting people together on the weekends for what is similar to a good ol' painting party. People paint and help out with other work and BVG's owners provide food.

Painting parties have been around, well, since paint was invented, I think. They are usually held for apartments and homes, but why not a store?

Before BVG even opens its doors for business, which may be as soon as next month, it appears to be starting off on the right foot with a good sense of community. Based on the posts to its FB page such as "Animal Antibiotic Overuse Hurting Humans?" it appears to care about the food it will be selling, too.

So, best wishes to Brooklyn Victory Garden with its desire to make a healthy contribution to the Clinton Hill community.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
