Vidal Sassoon Curling Iron: Product Review

A So-So Product

Alexis Valentine
Vidal Sassoon is supposed to be a line of professional hair care and styling products. I don't particularly care about name brands so long as the product works and is affordable. I'm not really sure what drew me to my Vidal Sassoon curling iron but I have two, one in a half inch clip barrel and the other is a one inch clip barrel. Here's my take on it.

About

It's a curling iron, it's meant to curl hair. I wish I could give you more product details but I've had it so long I no longer have the box and the curling iron doesn't say what kind it is so I haven't been able to find it on Google search.

My Experience
Pros

What I like about my Vidal Sassoon curling irons is that it comes in different sizes, just like other curling iron bands do. I like it mostly because it's affordable, that might've been what it came down to when I decided to go with Vidal Sassoon as oppose to another brand. Oddly enough I also like the coloring on my curling irons. It doesn't look serious, flashy or childish, it's very simple looking but has a nice light blue handle to it. My Vidal Sassoon curling irons also have a built-in stand to keep the hot barrel of off bathroom sink counters or carpets and rugs if you're sitting on the floor. It's a very easy curling iron to use. You'd be surprised at some of the curling irons that are out now that make things more complicate than they should be. My Vidal Sassoon curling irons are the simple clip, curl, hold and release kind not the non-clip kind you need to use with a glove. Another thing that I like is that the base of the cord swivels and turns with me as I'm using it so it keeps my cord from getting bunched up and tangled. It's also an easy brand to find and can be found in most drug stores, Wal-Mart and Target. It works fairly well at curling hair my fine hair and my friend's thicker hair, and it cools down quickly.

Cons

Although I've had my Vidal Sassoon curling iron for many years it's not the best that I've used, in fact it could possibly be the worse. What I don't like about this curling iron is that it takes too long to heat up. I'd have to wait a good five minutes before it's hot enough to be used. It takes almost as long to heat up my hair too, whereas other curling irons take less than a minute. It doesn't hold my curls for too long and is the worst curling iron for fine hair. Sure, if I hold it in place long enough my hair will curl but the curls straighten out very quickly, even with hair spray. Forget about it lasting for more than 30 minutes, not even a super hold hair spray can help.

Verdict

Don't waste your money on Vidal Sassoon's curling irons. It works okay for a while but after a few years it's time to replace it. You'd be better off spending a little more money on a good quality curling iron that will continue to work as good as the day you bought it.
