(Video) 'Despicable Me' Reviews Are Mostly Favorable

Hartley Engel
At the time of this writing, "Despicable Me" has an 80% Tomatometer ranking on Rotten Tomatoes (it measures the percentage of positive reviews from the nation's top critics) The consensus reads as follows: "Borrowing heavily (and intelligently) from Pixar and Looney Tunes, Despicable Me is a surprisingly thoughtful, family-friendly treat with a few surprises of its own." James Berardinelli, who in my opinion is the world's best online movie critic, gives it three out of four stars. "This is a smartly written comedy with a soft emotional core, writes Berardinelli. "It doesn't tug at the heart strings with the force of Toy Story 3, but it's nevertheless satisfying in an affecting way. Perhaps best of all, this is a rare instance in which the 3-D, while not an asset, is at least not a detriment. If you want to pay the extra money to wear the glasses, at least you're not being subjected to a subpar viewing experience."

I have to go see it whether I want to or not, but now I think I'll actually enjoy myself. This was a good preview ~ thanks.

Wear the glasses, 3 out of 4 - not a bad rating. Thanks for the review.
