Video Editing How to Tutorial

Video Edit Magic Pan, Zoom, and Slow Motion

This article has an embedded video on how to start working in Video Edit Magic and is an quick introduction to window navigation around Video Edit Magic.

Video Edit Magic has multiple tracks, yet easy to figure out in a short time. It has advanced effects such as, "Pan & Zoom" and "Green Screen". By changing the speed of the video, the video action conveys a different emotion than the original footage. Pan and zoom can be used in a very large still image in order to create the feeling of movement.

How to Video Edit Magic

The example of the slow motion pow-wow dancer at the end of this article is choppy. If the original clip had been shot at 30 FPS, then the ultra slow-motion would have been smoother. Make sure not to save at the default of 15 FPS during editing stages. Get the largest size memory card that your digital camera is able to handle. For a Canon PowerShot A610, the largest memory card it can handle is 2Gb. At 2 Gb, that is 16 minutes and 47 seconds of 640 size and 30 FPS.

Videos need to be condensed for upload and the final step before uploading to MySpace or YouTube is to save the movie in 320 size AVI format. If using the effect Pan and Zoom in a 640 size frame and then try to save it in 320 size in Quicktime, (MOV) format, - the pan and zoom will be at the wrong places.

Throughout the edit, keep in AVI format. The final last step is to prepare for upload by making the final edit a 320 sized AVI. Once have an entire clip in 320 size AVI format then convert into MOV format for upload The Quicktime default is 30 frames per second and should save in the default option so that the uploading process won't fail at MySpace or YouTube.

Video Edit Magic4.34 barely works on my Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP4 because the program has a memory leak and keeps sucking up resources the longer it's on. I save often and when it hangs, find that the program has used up to 77K in memory usage in Task Manager. I use it because it is better than VideoImpression. My system has 260Mb total physical memory and usually has 13Mb available physical memory.

  • Save in largest AVI format during editing.
  • Save at 30 FPS during editing stages
  • Convert the final edit to MOV format for upload.
A memory leak is a 'bug' in the software program, a reproducible glitch.
