Video Game Primer: Dead Space Extraction
All You Need to Know About This Space Thriller.
Story: The game is a prequel to the popular game Dead Space. It takes place on the same ship, the Aegis VII, that the main characters discover in the first game. This time around the player is a female protagonist that must lead a group of surviving colonist off the ship during the first attacks from the dreaded Necromorphs.
Style: The biggest thing I notice in the game footage is the use of darkness. This is a really dark game. The rooms you explore while trying to survive this game are all just with emergency lighting so you have these massive dark corners and corridors. You keep hearing these terrible noises above. Then you face the creatures, most often they are cloaked in shadows and when they come into the light you wish you had never seen them. In a word the game world is terrifying.
Gameplay: First person shooters really are amazing when done right on the Wii. It has all the precision of using a PC but on your TV. I am really surprised more games have not come out to utilize the Wii controls. For Dead Space the controls look very smooth. One of the coolest things is that you can do co-op with a friend. Instead of playing two different players each player takes an arm. This allows your hero to fight with twice the firepower and is a really cool way to include a friend.
What to Expect: Hardcore games have not been doing well on the Wii for some reason and so not that many are getting made. It was a brave choice for EA to come out with this game only on the Wii. It looks like they put a lot of work in it and I think its going to be an amazing game. If you can handle the adult content then this game will be worth picking up.
