Video Game Review: Chicken Invaders 2 Christmas Edition

Deborah Woehr
When I first saw this title, I smiled. Chicken Invaders? This has to be a knockoff of the once-popular Space Invaders game, I thought as I downloaded the trial to my hard drive. It is, except I thought this game was more fun and imaginative, thanks to the 25+ years in technological advances.

The object of the game is to blow as many chickens out of the sky as you can before they land or bomb you with Christmas tree ornaments. Collect the power-ups that occasionally fall when you kill a chicken and watch your firepower increase.

Chickens aren't the only thing that you have to watch out for. There are asteroids, evil snowmen, evil Santas, unhatched eggs and more that you will have to kill or avoid before they kill you. So far, I have reached two boss levels, which were easy to complete. This game gets more challenging with every level that you progress. Chicken Invaders 2 Christmas Edition begins on Pluto. From there, you work your way toward Earth.

The Christmas music is catchy and played with a flute. Just like most games, you can turn the music and sound effects down or off if they are too irritating or you need to hide the fact that you are playing a game when you are supposed to be working. Press Escape if you need to pause the game.

The free trial lasts for an hour, which gives you plenty of time to decide whether or not you want to buy the game. It took me about five minutes to decide that this is a great game to have when I want something a bit mindless to do between writing articles. The $7 price tag was also a winner for me.

You will have to set up an account with Big Fish Games first before they will let you download the full version. All that takes is entering your email and your password. Once you have that set up, you will have to run the game through the Big Fish interface. Any game you buy from them will run through this interface.

Conclusion

Chicken Invaders 2 Christmas Edition is an addicting game that will keep you entertained all day. The graphics are good quality, as is the music. The price is very reasonable for the entertainment you will receive. The only downside, if you would consider it a downside, is that you have to sign up for a membership with BigFish Games in order to buy the game. Highly recommended.
