Video Game Violence

Nancie Norton
What is happening to children today?
Society is taking their sensitivity away
Exposing them to violence in movies and Games
Isn't there anything, the public has t to say?

They took Tom and Jerry off of TV
Said, too much violence there
Yet, they replaced it with fighting robuts
That zap each other, with guns everywhere

And those video games that are allowed
To show our children how to kill
Leaves nothing to the imagination
So it gives them a dangerous thrill

They get used to the sight of blood
They get hardened, to seeing men die
While getting better at hitting their mark
By making the heart, their bullseye

Companies put on those useless ratings
But kids get a hold of them just the same
Our kids can't remember their homework
But they can remember all,of those video games

When are we going to stop
Letting our children be ruined by another's greed
By the violence that keeps upping the an'-te
On these video games that plant a bad seed

They plant the bad seed of violence
Along with the bad seed of disrespect
For women, and other people
And it causes the player to disconnect

A disconnect with the outside world
Everything seems to cease and desist
With nothing but the shooter and his victims
There's no human connection that exists

And the violence overflows into real life
With more crime than ever before
There's just got to be something done
We need to stop this from happening anymore!

Put those video game people out of business
If they don't make an effort to clean up their act
But enough parents will have to stand up
For it to make any kind of impact!

I agree too...so many kids are into this instead of doing school work..or even spending quality time with their family outdoors !!

Excellent topic, great poem!! I agree with Lisa Renee on this one. I am fortunate not to have one of those boxes in my house. When games progressed past Super Mario Brothers I lost interest.

video games definitely influence our children................usually in a bad way..................the parents need to be more involved in their lives to minimize the adverse effect..........

Video games are an art form, and should not be censored...however, I also believe that poor parenting is a big reason why kids play these violent games...If I brought home a record or a book that mom or dad didn't approve of, it was usually confiscated. I have teenage nieces, and there are games that their parents and I won't let them play. Mom and dad should preview junior's game before he is allowed to play it. There are good action-packed games without the scantily clad women or the blood and gore.
