Video: Glenn Beck Says Sarah Palin is Suspicious of Everything and Has Her Shields Up

Marc Schenker
Glenn Beck says that Sarah Palin is suspicious of everything and has her shields up more than anyone he's ever known or met. The opinionated FNC commentator whose show has taken Fox News by storm in the last year pronounced Palin as such while appearing on the O'Reilly Factor just before the weekend, on the show's weekly feature entitled "At Your Beck and Call." During an analysis of his interview with Palin which occurred earlier in the same week, Beck was prompted by Bill O'Reilly to give his memorable impression of what kind of a woman Palin was, and he didn't hold back.

Though it may seem a tiny, little bit surprising that Beck-libertarian, conservative-would offer such a strong assessment of the former governor, well-liked by conservatives and a rising star in the GOP, one should appreciate his candid commentary and the context in which he delivered it.

The overarching point in Beck's appraisal was that Palin is driven in large extent to be "suspicious" of everything and very guarded because of the torrent of criticism that you know is just waiting around the corner by all the liberals in the media, no matter what she says, does or opines. Still, a very effective illustration of just how guarded Palin is and how much her proverbial shields are up was seen in her pre-show preparation for Beck's interview. According to Beck, while she was having her hair and makeup done-you know, just what all girls do before a big interview-she was actually "Googling" fast-facts about the Statue of Liberty, concerned that Beck was going to somehow trip her up with some pop-quiz questions!

Now from Palin's perspective, it makes sense to be this-I hate to say "paranoid"-but, certainly, guarded to the point where you're even expecting some curveball questioning from a host who was actually criticized for asking Palin "softball" questions during the interview. After all, Palin as we all know is the unfortunate target of the insane, out-of-control, liberal establishment's all-out hatred and misogyny. Many speculate it has to do with the fact that Palin threatens all liberals because she is a pro-life, conservative woman who will fiercely defend said beliefs.

Furthermore, the O'Reilly and Beck analysis of Beck's Palin interview takes a further unexpected turn when they both gently hammer her a little bit for her flubbing of a question Beck shot her regarding who her favorite Founding Father was. Both were unimpressed with Palin's circumventing answer of "all of them" instead of just simply homing in on one and saying a name. Beck was apparently unimpressed enough that he even called her out with "Bullcrap!!" a few seconds into her questionable answer on the Founding Fathers, but it was likely a teasing call-out.

The Beck/O'Reilly analysis ends on an upbeat note when it's revealed both of them really just want her to go on the offensive more-so they were gently hammering her in a "tough love" sort of way in the hopes that she would improve...ahhh, I get it now-in answering tougher questions. They both agree that is what Americans want anyhow.

Sarah has been bashed so much by the left, it is a wonder she hasn't cracked yet but she is a very strong woman and the left hates that.

Hooray for Sarah, she didn't run away like the liberal media wanted her to do. So she is not the sharpest tool in the shed, she is a nice person who does not deserve as Robert Lee said, to be stabbed in the back so much!!!

She was not ready, nor the best choice, to run for VP on any ticket in 2008, maybe a few years down the road with the experience of interviews and challenging of her intellect in front of the world she will be a more viable choice. Unfortunate as it is, once you reach for such a high position your entire life is scrutinized, she's not immune to it -- just like no other candidate is or has been. Great topic.

    Thought provoking!

Firstly, this article gives the impression that Sarah Palin is suspicious therefore paranoid. Glenn Beck did not say this. He actually said "she is the most guarded woman he has ever seen". There is a difference between having your guard up and in being suspicious.

I agree with Robert. Once bitten, twice shy. Palin has a legitimate reason to be 'paranoid.' Blood-thirsty news journalist and television commentators are chomping at the bit to take that woman down--verbally.

  • Damien Andrews1/17/2010

Well done report. I think Beck is partially correct, but I also think Palin has recognized that she is not very 'quick' or well versed and now thinks before speaking.

Everybody makes mistakes, but most people don't have to worry about microscopic examinations where every little thing they say is taken apart word for word and letter by letter. We have a tendency in our media to not only tear the Palins in our world apart, but also shred them to pieces.
