(Video) Roman Polanski Freed by Swiss Authorities

Hartley Engel
Swiss authorities have decided not to extradite director Roman Polanski to the United States to face sentencing for having unlawful sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl thirty years ago. It should be noted that Polanski still faces arrest if he travels to the U.S. Below, Los Angeles Times reporter Steve Lopez gives his take on the case - and it's not sympathetic to Polanksi.

I've always been so confused about this. It's absolutely, incredibly horrible that he raped a 13 year old girl. I don't disagree with that. I wonder if he was in a bad way because of how his wife Sharon Tate had died and if perhaps this was something that he ordinarily would not have done. I haven't done much research on this and don't know if that was taken into account, whether he had to submit to psychological interviews.

It figures. Child molesters can easily get away with it. They always have.
