    @spencer
    The fort has been called both names - Fort McRee or Fort McRae. Take a look at this document from USF - http://fcit.usf.edu/florida/docs/c/civatpen.htm

    The Fort McRae you refer to is actually Fort McRee. See link below.

    @Pensacola native - from what I read and commented on 7/12/2009, Ft McRae (west of Pensacola Inlet, where we were anchored) had completely eroded into the waters. Fort Pickens, on the other side of the inlet, is probably where you are referring to. And you were correct. I did not go there.

    not even a ruin in sight? did you even get off of the boat? There is plenty of the fort left for a good 3-4 hour hike to explore whats left. Before they closed off the entrance you could almost walk all the way through the fort from the inlet side to the gulf, quite eerie. Nonetheless it is a good time and I make it out there a few times a year

    Fort McRae is located at the Pensacola Inlet in Pensacola, Florida. I do not know the history of the fort anymore than that it was swept away by the hurricane. There was not even a ruin in sight. On the other side of the inlet is Fort Pickens. There are ruins over there that you can explore. There was an article related to Fort McRae in the New York Times on Oct 3, 1906, see link -
