Historic Site on the River: Gramercy Park in East Dubuque, Illinois
Contains Numerous Mounds from the Hopewell Mound-Builders Culture
Gramercy Park contains numerous mounds that were created by a culture known as the Hopewell Mound Builders. This group of people built many prominent sites along major waterways that could be traveled for purposes of trade and communication. The Park has not only the mounds for viewing, but a fun nature trail, an open-air pavilion for eating and grilling, and an observation deck that offers beautiful panorama views of the Mississippi River and Dubuque, Iowa.
