How to Play a Ska Groove

This video shows how to play a ska groove on the drum set. Ska is similar to raggae in that it is almost the same pattern as the raggae pattern. The difference is that it is played at a faster tempo, and it played straight instead of swung. Look at the variations that i play in the video.

    Good start, but not all the way there. Traditional ska drumming (a la the Skatalites and Prince Buster) saw the hi hat is played straight through as eighth notes, not just on the upbeats as displayed in the video. The upbeats are heavily accented on the hi-hat to go with the skank of the guitar and piano, but the hi-hat pattern is not broken up like that.
