The Use of a Drum Ring

This video shows what the drum ring does to the sound of your drums. The drum ring generally muffls the sound of your drum. Depending on the playing situation, you may or may not want to use a drum ring. If you are playing in a small club, and your snare resonates alot when you play it, you may want to use the drum ring to muffle the sound a bit. It's totally up to your taste to figure out when or when not to use the drum ring.
