Viewers of Fox News Are Gravely Misinformed Per New Study

Julia Bodeeb
A study recently found that the more Fox news that was watched, the higher the errors in answering factual questions about the United States and world issues. Most people don't need a study to understand that statement. However, a 2010 study from the University of Maryland has now shown that Fox news misinforms viewers to the point where they cannot correctly answer questions about major issues.

The University of Maryland study, "Misinformation and the 2010 Election," analyzed the level of misinformation among viewers of TV news broadcasts and other media, notes Talking Points Memo. People who watch Fox News do not get real facts about world issues. This study shows that their inability to answer questions correctly shows that they are getting too much spin and not enough true facts.

The study asked questions on topics such as: "Most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring, the auto bailout only occurred under Obama and most economists have estimated the health care law will worsen the deficit," notes Talking Points Memo.

Fox News & GOP Talking Points

Fox news just repeats the GOP talking points over and over. This so called "News" network is a mouthpiece for the GOP. Fox disseminates false information. Recently Fox has been in the news for feeding the public GOP rhetoric that global warming does not exist.

And thus the World Public Opinion poll shows that Fox news viewers had the highest level of positive response to the statement that "Most scientists think that climate change is not occurring." That opinion is sadly formed by Fox's denial of global warming. Scientists do support the concept of global warming. However, Fox will never admit to that.

Sly Like a Fox

Fox news deliberately misinforms the public. It is sad that an organization that calls itself a news source actually relates more to the proverb of "sly like a fox." Fox news is sly and utilizes spin to fool the public. And when you look at the ownership of

It is a sad commentary on the lack of information about the GOP that GOP voters have that they could not even identify that George Bush also had an auto bailout program, not just President Obama. The GOP is caught up in nasty rhetoric. That is dimming the knowledge of GOP members about crucial issues and facts.

It's appalling that they even call it a "news" program. It's a show filled with dim-witted "reporters" who love to repeat Republican sound bites, over and over again. I'm amazed anyone takes Fox News seriously.

Back in the good old days, people used to be ashamed to be stupid. <shrug>

I believe this. They are a purveyor of right wing propaganda and they sell it with fear and misinformation. It is a shame they hold so much power.

And they had to do a study on this? All I have to do is get into a conversation with some of my right wing, Fox-junkie friends to figure that out - and I wouldn't even charge a fee for the "study". :)
