Viewers Send Pia Toscano Packing on "American Idol"

Renee Bagley
On last nights shocking results on "American Idol," Tia Toscano was sent home. This is just another example of why it is important for fans to vote. It's very typical that fans assume the best singers are safe, but as Randy Jackson said "no one is ever safe."

The bottom three consisted of Toscano, Stefano Langone, and Jacob Lusk. First Lusk was sent back to safety, followed by Langone, with Toscano in shock. First let me say: why does anyone assume they are safe? Each week someone goes home, so the fact that Toscano was shocked, actually shocked me. We all know more women watch the show than men, and the women typically vote for the men. This leaves the women at a severe disadvantage. And I was sad to see her go, but surprised that she didn't think it could be her. I personally expected Stefano Langone to go home. But he didn't. Maybe I wasn't the only one tired of Pia's ballads. She will be missed on the show.

Pia was without a doubt, one of the better singers of the group, but she took much too long getting to perform after her series of ballads for the first few weeks. The judges told her to not do another ballad, and she chose another one to sing last week.

Finally, this week she did sing a non-ballad, and for once she actually got off her stool and performed. But it was much too late. The audience had grown tired of the dull performances. Here's the thing: all of the singers can sing. All of them. So in order to stand out it's important to listen to the judges' comments, to perform and connect with the audience (each week), because singing well just isn't enough.

Who did you vote for? Were you tired of seeing Pia's ballads week after week? Leave your thoughts on Pia's elimination in the comments section. Don't forget to vote next week!

I'm going to write an article on this today. I knew Pia was on her way out.
