Viewers, Team Potter Blast 'Twilight Saga's' MTV Movie Awards Takeover

Team Potter may have been trending superstars on Twitter on Sunday night, but it was Team Twilight that ruled the MTV Movie Awards. "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" took home the golden popcorn in every category it was nominated for. An event that even irritated viewers that aren't "Harry Potter" fanatics and just want the awards to go to more movies.

The third installment to the sparkly vampire epic took the Best Movie, Best Female Performance (Kristen Stewart), Best Male Performance (Robert Pattinson), Best Kiss and Best Fight categories.

Team Potter Lashes Out

Enraged, Team Potter took to Twitter. While happy for actor Tom Felton's winning 'Best Villain' for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the first installment of "The Deathly Hallows," they weren't consoled. A few even blamed author Stephenie Meyer for writing the "Twilight" series in the first place.

"Even KStew knows she shouldn't have won. How sad. Yes, thank the fans, because you wouldn't have won based on your skill alone." "What have we learned from these muggle award shows? It pays to be evil. Tom Felton, best villain." -- Daphne Greengrass (@GrassesOfGreen), London

"Dear Stephenie Meyer, thank you for completely ruining every single freaking award show. Love, #teampotter." -- Gisela Meza (@atltmpmnsn), Texas

Viewers Question Awards, 'Eclipse' Wins

Pattinson titillated the audience with an f-bomb, kissing Taylor Lautner and saying he was going to take co-star and girlfriend Stewart backstage. The shenanigans didn't soothe the disgust of some viewers, however, who shared their opinions.

Josh Singer, of Boston, Mass., professed to be unsatisfied with the awards show. "I was quite unsatisfied with the winners from last night. I was confused because of how many nominations/wins "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" got, but then the musical entertainment was someone like the Foo Fighters. So who is MTV trying to target? 14 -year old-girls or 30-year-old men? The winners seemed very fake and not chosen by fans, it was too obvious who MTV wanted to market this award show to based on the winners. Just about the only good thing about the evening was Jason Sudekis, the not-well-enough-known host who was one of the most talented people in the room."

Makeda Saggau-Sackey thought the best moment was when Pattinson let the F-Bomb slip, but that's about as far as the love went for the movie. "Watching the MTV Movie Awards last night reminded me that the network is truly to teens and tweens," The awards show was geared towards Twihards and those who worship RPatz, K-Stew and Taylor Lautner. Letting viewers vote for all the categories of the awards seems like a good idea, after all, its power to the people correct? Wrong!"

Saggau-Sackey continued with, "The awards should be changed to the MTV Twilight Awards because that's what it turned out to be last night and the year before that and the year before that. Sure the movie is a phenomenon but to vote Kristen Stewart for Best Actress instead of Emma Watson? Laughable. The movie isn't that poignant or thought provoking to be considered Best Movie of the Year."

Kirbie Johnson, of California, believes the whole nomination process of the MTV Movie Awards is suspect. Her take:

"They should go ahead and admit they (MTV) sold their soul to the devil for viewers -- by agreeing to give all the Twilight scoop and nominating them for almost every category, they knew they'd receive more tween participation, which is why "Twilight" won every category they were nominated for. This was highly a movie awards show, but then again, what are we supposed to expect? It was broadcast on a TV station with "music" in the main title, which doesn't play music at all and is known for reality television. It was rather embarrassing. Every movie should have won besides "Twilight."
