The best part of windows Vista is the new 'Aero' feature. Aero feature is solely responsible for providing all the amazing and attractive looks that you see in Windows Vista. Do you know that Windows Vista has an inbuilt benchmarking utility? This benchmarking utility is used to measure the performance of different hardware devices installed in your computer system like CPU, memory, hard disk, graphics, etc.
Viewing unseen 3D benchmarks is not a really useful tip but only forms a part of attraction and can be tried without any risk. This process is termed as "Assessment Tool" in Windows Vista. You can also open this utility from command prompt.
Remember to have administrator rights for performing this operation. If you don't know how to enable administrator rights, then right click and select the 'Run as Administrator' option. Also, windows Vista AERO feature will be temporarily disabled while the test is being performed.
In order to see perform this trick open 'Start Menu' and select the 'Run' option. In the 'Run' window, type "cmd" and press 'Enter' key to open the 'command prompt' window. In the 'command prompt' window, type the following commands to have a look at the amazing graphics produced by the "Windows System Assessment Tool".
winsat d3d -totalobj 18 -texshader
winsat d3d -totalobj 20 -texshader -objs C(20)
winsat d3d -objs C(18) -totalobj 12 -totaltex 9 -texpobj C(2) -noalpha -alushader -v -time 20
winsat d3d -objs C(10) -totaltex 11 -totalobj 15 -texpobj C(12) -alushader -v -time 15
Note: You can also change the parameters like totalobj (number of objects displayed during benchmark) and time (how many seconds the benchmark will run) in the command in order to see different view of the benchmarks. The performance of these benchmarks depends on the graphics power of your computer. In other words, if you have a powerful graphics card installed in your system, these benchmarks will smoothly run on your computer otherwise you will notice frequent pauses that depicts the lack of powerful graphics in your computer system.
