Vikings Help Bears with Reality, 36-10

Here's What Chicago Needs to Do

Gary Davis
I'm a Chicago Cubs fan. That should let you know how much I love the Chicago Bears. I never give up. This year I've given up. The Minnesota Vikings put things into reality yesterday. The Minnesota Vikings massacred the Bears 36-10. The fact is however, the beating was worse than the score. The Minnesota Vikings could have beaten the Chicago Bears 56-10 and no one would have blinked.

Of course take nothing away from Minnesota. They are every bit as talented as their 10-1 record says.

The much maligned (anymore wisecracks Terry Bradshaw?) Favre has found new life on a team built for him.

He has a runner named Adrian Peterson who is amazing but just as importantly tons of receivers when Peterson gets the defense focusing on him, as the Bears did.

The Bears on the other hand have a number of woes.

Jay Cutler the once thought of savior of the offense is setting records with interceptions. This isn't entirely his fault. He has an ancient offensive line and Ron Turner who even after years can't meld offensive talent. Further Cutler and the Bears' receivers haven't been able to meld.

Unfortunately, while Lovie Smith is a class guy, he just isn't a good head football coach. He did go to a super bowl but if you look at the season you see a lot of luck and individual performances, not a team.

Smith hangs on to mediocre players too long such as Rex Grossman. He does not have creativity and doesn't know how to get Turner to do what he should do.

Every time the Bears get burned on a play when the camera pans to Lovie he looks like he isn't sure where he is at.

Now I am a Lovie Smith fan so I have no problem if the Bears bring in a coach say like Bill Cower and put Lovie under him as a general assistant coach in training handling defense.

After Cower wins a Super Bowl put Lovie back in charge and perhaps we'll have a dynasty.

We need some energy on the sidelines.

So as a Bears fan here is my suggestion for success:

Get rid of Ron Turner. Bring in Bill Cower. Bring in experienced but younger offensive linemen. Remember we have no draft picks. Utilize Johnny Knox like crazy. Stick with Jay Cutler but get a coach tougher than him preferably Cower and make him practice until he gets his courage back.

We'll do much better next year and then we'll have some draft picks and we'll win the Super Bowl.
