When renting DVD's, people often look for the latest movie to come out. This summer why not look at a few really good vintage ones. You may find a few of these on AMC or TNT. But, why wait? Get them on DVD and watch them when you want. You may have seen these before, but they are definitely worth a second watch.

10. The Big Chill from 1983 stars Jobeth Williams, William Hurt, Glenn Close, Kevin Kline and Jeff Goldblum. It has a great cast and a very good story. It revolves are around issues fellow classmates never resolved. The group comes together following the death of fellow college friend. A serious thinking drama.

9. Flashdance is also from 1983. It stars Jennifer Beals and Michael Noury. It was a huge hit when it was released. It has a great song and is very energetic. It's a fun musical that will make you sing.

8. Jaws was made in 1975. You get a chance to compare this movie, which was considered so scary in its time, to those today. Not so scary anymore, but it is a great summer movie to watch. It stars Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss and is directed by Steven Spielberg. A horror/adventure movie.

7. Officer and a Gentleman was made in 1982 and starred Richard Gere and Debra Winger. It is a fun summer movie about a young naval officer who falls in love. Is their love enough? A great story and it may even make you cry. Definitely a romance movie.

6. On Golden Pond is from 1981. It stars Jane Fonda, Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn. How this did not win an Oscar for best film is still a mystery. It is a thinking drama and deals with aging.

5. Private Benjamin is from 1980. It stars Goldie Hawn and is one of her best movies. Eileen Brennan and Albert Brooks co-star. A spoiled woman joins the army and learns about life. Hawn is magnificent and the film has a feel good ending. Awesome comedy!

4. Risky Business was made in 1983 and really launched Tom Cruise. Can you picture him in his briefs? It's a teenage coming of age film with a fun twist. Rebecca DeMornay co-stars. Comedy/sex content movie.

3. Romancing the Stone is from 1984 and starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Tuner. A romantic comedy about a snooty woman writer, who meets an adventurous carefree man. The two end up in a number of difficult situations before realizing what really matters. Comedy and romance movie.

2. The Three Musketeers from 1974 is a genuine classic. It starred Oliver Reed, Richard Chamberlain, Michael York and Raquel Welch. A swashbuckling fun movie that is perfect for the summer. Great script! Great cast! Great movie! An adventure comedy film.

1. Young Frankenstein in black and white from 1974. This one is not necessarily a horror. It is quite funny and you will smile throughout. Stars Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr and Peter Boyle. Of course it is about the making of a Frankenstein monster. Horror? Comedy!

If you are looking for great movies, it is time to see these for the first, second or third time. They will truly make for an interesting summer evening and are a lot better than many third rate films coming out on DVD this summer.
