Lamps
In almost every room, my mother has a vintage lamp, usually with roses on it. Sometimes the lampshade is not vintage, as it may have been too tattered for continued use, but most of her lamps are vintage. They are very beautiful, and I enjoy looking at them.
Furniture
She has armoires, sofas, chairs, and tables that are vintage and Victorian. All the pieces are at least 100 years old, and have intricate designs. The sofas and chairs have rose shapes carved into the wood at the foot of them. The fabric is covered with roses and people in Victorian attire. From my experience, Victorian sofas and chairs are not very comfortable, but they are very beautiful to look at. I would include comfortable sitting furniture in a living room or bedroom as needed. Wrought iron chairs and beds are also beautiful pieces of vintage furniture that add a simple beauty to any room.
Dishes
My mother has vintage plates displayed on the walls in her living room and hallway. They are stunning and inspiring to look at it. Most are of roses, painted in soft pink or yellow with light green and blue in the background. Vintage teapots and tea sets are on display on the back porch table, and also on shelves in the kitchen. Vintage dishes also look great on display in a cabinet with glass doors.
Art/Photos
Victorian artwork is displayed throughout her home, and it adds a charming touch to any room. They are of women only, or women and children, or simply flowers. Also, my mother collected old black and white photos of family members such as my great-great grandparents, and other relatives that lived during the early part of the 20th century. The photos are displayed in vintage looking frames, or silver handcrafted frames.
Linen/Lace
Vintage linen and lace are wonderful to use when decorating a Victorian home. They can be used on the table as a table cloth, or hang from the top of a piano with old pictures perched on it. It could be used to drape over a chair, or even to cover up an unsightly spot on a piece of furniture. Lace doilies are perfect for placing a vase of beautiful, fresh flowers on, or even a slender lamp.
Porcelain dolls are pretty and dainty treasures that add a very feminine feel to a Victorian bedroom. They would even be delightful in a living room.
Almost all of these accessories can be found at flea markets or antique stories. I have spent many hours in antique stores, amazed by the beautiful vintage treasures that I find within.
