Vintage Book Headboard Project

This vintage book headboard is the perfect way to create a colorful headboard that does not take up a ton of room. I live in a small space, so I know what it is like to need a flat, but stylish headboard that does not take up a ton of room!

You can make this flat headboard in one day and use for years to create a stylish and designer headboard in your home!

To Make a Thin Headboard Out of Vintage Books You Will Need:

Vintage Books

MDF

Screws

Power drill

So, I have a few tips for making this vintage book headboard for your small space. Try choosing books in one color, but different shades for a more relaxing headboard. Although this seems like this small space headboard would be a shabby chic headboard or vintage headboard, you can really create a contemporary or modern headboard by using all red books or all blue books.

Finally, if you want a small space headboard that is all one color, but you just cannot find enough vintage books to do this, try covering your books in wrapping paper, scrap book paper, or even fabric!

Now, once all your vintage books are ready use a level and a pencil to draw out the shape of yoru headboard on the wall. Typically I like to make a small space headboard the same width as my bed, but about three to four feet tall.

Now, start in the top left corner. Place your first book, bound side up on the wall.

The back of the book should e against the wall and as stated before, the seam or bound side up. This will keep your vintage book shut thanks to gravity.

Now, open the book to expose the back hard cover of the book. Pre drill a hole though the back of the book and into the wall.

Now, use a screw to attach the book to the wall.

Keep repeating this step until you will the whole area you marked as your small space headboard.

I have a few more tips for you when creating this thin or flat headboard.

Try using books in a similar thickness if possible It might look a little odd to use an exceptionally thick book and a truly thin vintage book to make the headboard.

If you prefer your vintage books to be vertical on the wall, so the covers are readily try using a vintage ribbon or even a piece of twine to tie each book shut and then attach then to the wall.

If you do not want this flat small space headboard to create a ton of holes in your bedroom wall, then build it on a sheet of MDF.

The sheets of MDF made into a small space headboard can be hung on the wall above your bed-using picture hanging hooks.
