Vintage Cabbage Patch Kids - Where to Find Them

Colleen Mitchell
Cabbage Patch Dolls, also known as Cabbage Patch kids, were all the rage back in the early 80's. I remember hearing stories of people waiting in lines for days to get one, paying hundreds of dollars for them, and even having knock-down drag-out fights just to get the last one! They were wildly popular, but like all fads, this one eventually faded.

Xavier Roberts invented the dolls, which were never referred to as dolls, but as babies waiting to be adopted. The original dolls had soft cloth bodies and vinyl faces with yarn hair. They were soft, huggable, and people swore that no two hugged the same! They were not offered for sale, but were put up for adoption. They came with birth certificates that you could fill out and send in to register your new bundle of joy.

Since the reintroduction of the newly redesigned generation of cabbage patch kids in 2004 the doll is once again being exposed to a generation of children who just love cuddly, sweet, cabbage-faced dolls. There original devotees, now parents themselves, nostalgically buy up these dolls hoping their children will find the same thrill they did not so many years ago.

Because original Cabbage Patch dolls are about 20 years old they are considered collectibles by some - and are priced accordingly. Any antique or collectible store in your area is bound to have at least one or two Cabbage Patch dolls on their shelves. The only draw back is, as I said before, you are going to pay for the "collectible" label they put on it.

The new dolls are very similar to the original ones, and are priced much more reasonably, but some people still seem to prefer the original dolls. Finding those dolls is not difficult at all, if you know where to look.

http://www.etsy.com is my all-time favorite place to find vintage and handcrafted items on-line . A quick search brings up vintage dolls, clothes patterns, cloth diapers, jewelry, and other items - all for vintage cabbage patch dolls! The dolls themselves are very reasonable and go for between $5 and $30 depending on type and condition.

http://www.ioffer.com is another good place for bargain Cabbage Patch dolls. This site tends to have more dolls and less accessories so you may want to look for your new vintage baby here, and then deck her out at etsy! Again, prices range from $5 to about $30.

http://wagglepop.com is the place for the best bargains. This is an auction site that is fast becoming the favorite eBay alternative for sellers fed up with ebay fee hikes! The deals on here go super fast so check often! Prices for dolls range in the $5 to $15 range on Waggglepop.

http://www.atoncer.com is a site that a friend of mine has had some luck with. They have a doll selling marketplace there and she has found dolls, dresses, outfits, shoes, and accessories there. It may be worth a look.
Of course, if you want some of the newer dolls, and don't mind paying full retail, check out the official Cabbage Patch Kids web site at http://www.cabbagepatchkids.com.

you still have not said how to clean the old soft bodies. I want to surprise my Granddaughter with them cleaned up. They went everywhere and she has about 26 of them.
