Vintage Christmas Lights: eBay, RubyLane, Other Sites Offer Classic Lights

The years of 1900 to 1960 are the vintage years for Christmas lights. They are also the years most collectors consider to be the Golden Age of electric Christmas lighting.

I have found the internet to be most beneficial in my quest for vintage Christmas lights.

The best site I found was http://stores.ebay.com/Antique-Christmas-Lighting-Plus. I was not only amazed at the number of sets of vintage Christmas lights available, but also the quality.

Here there is a set of Santa's Workshop lights. These are six Santas, each in a different outfit, with different tools; still in their original box, from Sears department Store. The price on this set is $550.00.

At this same site, you can also find a string of 1950 Bubble lights, and there are 8 lights on the string. The lights have 4 ½" long tubes, with bubbles that rise up through the liquid in the tube; replicating a shooting star. These lights are still in their original box, which is in good shape. This set of lights sells for $260.00.

One thing that must be considered if you are going to actually use the vintage Christmas lights you purchase; is replacement parts. At this same site you can find a box of 50 replacement Bubble light tubes for $95.00, or a box of 100 Bubble light tubes for $188.00.

There are two vintage, and lighted centerpieces, which are a Ring and Star with a Gem in the center. One is $350.00, and the other is $2000.00.

At http://www.rubylane.com/shops/snazzygirl/iten/02530 they have 2 boxes of vintage Christmas lights still in their original box. These lights have the flame-shaped bulbs. There are a few scratches on some of the bulbs, but other than that, they are in good working order. Their cost is $15.00 a box, with $1.50 for insurance. The interesting thing is, the price printed on the box is $.59.

If you love vintage Christmas lights, but their cost doesn't yet fall into your budget, at http://www.walmart.com, you can find many light sets and decorations that are retro-inspired.

The best site I found for accessories for my vintage Christmas lights and decorations, was http://www.residential-landscape-lighting-design.com. They have every accessory you might need to 'deck the halls,' from extension cords to power-stakes; or light-testers to timer controls.

If you are interested in beginning a collection of vintage Christmas lights, you might like to visit http://www.oldchristmaslights.com/. It is much like a small museum of vintage Christmas lights, with a history of each. I am sure you will find it quite interesting.

Searching for vintage Christmas lights is so much fun. It brings back the nostalgia of Christmas as a child. It is what helps to keep the spirit of Christmas alive in us each year.

  • Replacement parts can be hard to find.
  • If you plan on using them, check the connections and wiring.
  • Some vintage lights run on battery.
For vintage Christmas lights to be truly collectable, they must be in their original box, and in decent condition.
