Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric Lampshade Craft Project

This simple Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric lampshade craft project is a great way to remake any old lampshade into a new whimsical lampshade perfect for a vintage or retro kitchen, family room, or crafting studio. You can use any old or damage Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric as the base for this Vintage or Retro craft project to save money.

To make a whimsical Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric lampshade you will need:

Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric

Fabric Lamp Shade

Floral wire

Scissors

I find great Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric and new Cotton Ticking Fabric all the time at flea markets, antique stores, and even on ebay. I love Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric, but had to finally come up with something to turn it into!

The first step is to completely remove all of the fabric from your damaged or existing lampshade. Start by poking some scissors through the fabric, then cut away. Once you have the body of the fabric removed then start working on the material wrapped onto he wires. This will take some time, but is a great way to save a little money and salvage and exiting lampshade.

Tip: If you don't have a damaged or existing lampshade you want to get rid of you can buy these wire frames of a lampshade at any arts and craft store.

Now, go ahead and wash your Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric. It is always best to start with a clean Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric.

Use your lampshade to trace a pattern onto the blanket. Cut it out about two inches bigger than you lampshade form.

Now, gently wrap the Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric cut out around the lampshade. See how well the Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric will fit on the whimsical lampshade. You only want it to overlap about an inch on the sides.

Now, run a bead of hot glue around the top border of the wire lampshade.

Gently press the top edge of the Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric around it in place. You want the back of the blanket meet in the back, but they can overlap a little if needed.

If your Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric is a little too larger, you can bunch it as you go, sort of like curtains bunch on a rod.

Run the bead of glue and press the bottom of the Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric cutout lampshade into place.

NEVER use a bulb that has a higher watt than recommended in a lamp. For all of these decorative Vintage Cotton Ticking Fabric lampshades I recommend using a low watt bulb. 25 to 40 watts at most. These are meant to be decorative lights. You can rely on other whimsical lamps and light sources to illuminate your home.

Never leave these whimsical lamps burning unattended. This is a good rule in general.
