Kids would even be able to use this vintage inspired coat hook in their bedroom to keep them organized! This retro coat hook would also make a great towel hook in the bathroom!
To Make a Vintage Crochet Mallet Coat Hook You Will Need:
1 - 5 Wood vintage crochet mallets
Jig saw or hand saw
1X8 board
Primer
Paint
Stain
Wood screws
Pencil
Power drill
So the first step is to find your vignette wood crochet mallets. You can find these online at ebay, at local flea markets, and at yard sales.
Now, you can make this retro coat hook with as many crochet mallets as you want. Each mallet will make one hook.
Now, have your piece of 1X8 cut to length. You will want about 10 inches of length for each crochet mallet.
Now, go ahead and sand and prime out the piece of wood. Once the primer dries paint the board in a coordinating color. You could even stain the wood.
Now, take each crochet mallet. Measure about five inches down from the back of the wood mallet end. Mark this with a pencil.
Use a hand saw or a jig saw to cut off the mallet end right at the mark you made.
Now, pre drill a hoel into the rough end of the crochet mallet handle.
Now, measure out your 1X8 board, you will want to mark the center of the board and then about every five inches or so. Simply mark a spot where you want to attach your crochet mallet.
Be sure to evenly space the dots. Now, pre drill the holes though the back of the 1X8 board and completely out the front.
Now, place the first crochet mallet head over one hole Screw it into place form behind. Repeat this step until you have firmly attached each crochet mallet head.
Now, on either end pre drill a hole through the 1X8 again.
Use these holes to attach your retro industrial coat hook to the wall. Be sure to drill the screws into the studs in the wall. If you can not hit the stud, then use toggle bolts.
If you can, then make this retro coat hook as long as possible. Using about ten or more vintage wood churches mallet heads will really create visual impact and add tons of storage in any room!
