If you are looking to begin collecting vintage jewelry boxes, or for some new places to shop, here are a couple of my favorite places to shop.
Always Treasured
Always Treasured is an online retailer that offers a great selection of antique and vintage jewelry, vintage jewelry boxes and other collectibles. Covering a wide span of styles and eras, the vintage jewelry boxes from Always Treasured have been chosen for their unique designs and fine quality. The selection includes hand painted porcelain boxes, reproduction print boxes, and beautifully carved jewelry boxes.
Orders can be processed online and prices vary by the quality and age of each jewelry box. I have found the prices from Always Treasured to be slightly higher than vintage jewelry boxes that I have found in person, but the quality is very good and prices do reflect that. www.alwaystreasured.com
Granny's Jewelry Box
I was first attracted to the name of this online retailer, my own love for and vintage jewelry collection started with my own grandmother's jewelry box. Ultimately though, it was the selection the kept me looking and coming back.
Granny's Jewelry Box does not have a huge inventory of vintage jewelry boxes, but it does make them available as the pieces are acquired. If you are really serious about buying or collecting these boxes, check the website regularly since they are usually sold very soon after they are posted. The condition and, if possible, background details of each piece is collected and given as each item is listed. Orders can be placed online using Paypal, credit card or check or money order. www.grannysjewelrybox.com
Kane County Flea Market
My favorite place to shop for any antiques, but especially vintage jewelry and jewelry boxes, is at the Kane County Flea Market held at the Kane County Fairgrounds every month in St. Charles, Illinois. Over 1,000 vendors fill the fairgrounds the first weekend of the month to sell everything under the sun. As you can imagine, finding the perfect vintage jewelry box you want in a place this big is not the easiest thing. It takes lots of time and searching to find the vendors who will be selling items you are interested in, but that is a huge part of the draw. You never know what treasure you will find, or what a deal the items you dig up will be. www.kanecountyfleamarket.com
