This simple Christmas wreath is great way to display your collection of vintage jewelry. Vintage earrings are perfect for this Christmas wreath, but you can incorporate almost any vintage jewelry you have. Costume jewelry also works great!
To Make This Vintage Jewelry Christmas Wreath You Will Need:
1 Christmas Wreath Form
Black Velvet Ribbon (3 inches wide)
Clip on Vintage Earrings
Vintage Necklace Pendants (like cameos)
Floral wire (optional)
Velvet (optional)
The first step is to choose your wreath form. I like to use a real evergreen wreath for this craft project because I know I will want to remove all of my vintage jewelry once the holiday is over and safely put it away.
You can use a fake evergreen wreath as well.
If you want to use a Styrofoam or straw wreath then you will need to warp it with some green velvet ribbon. This is to mimic not only a real evergreen Christmas wreath, but also the inside if a jewelry box. Start the ribbon in the back of the wreath. Hold it in place with a straight pin. Wrap it around the e wreath form until covered. Hold the end in place with another straight pin.
Now, if you are using a real ever green wreath you can simply clip on your vintage clip on earrings. Real earrings can have the back removed, the earring inserted on the branched and the back replaced to hold it on the wreath.
If the vintage earrings have any loops or hole sin them you can cut off a piece of floral wire. Slip it through the hole, and then loop it onto the wreath securely.
I love using those vintage necklace pendants on this wreath. They already have a hole in the top where the necklace chain went through them. You can remove the chain and store it safety away. Slight a four inch piece of floral wire through the hole in the top of the dependant and attach it to your Christmas wreath.
If you are using the Styrofoam wreath or straw wreath form you need to use straight pins to attach your vintage jewelry to the Christmas wreath. Simply insert the straight pin through the hole and punch into the wreath form.
If you have very small earring or stud type earring you can take a small piece of cardboard and cover it in some velvet material. Glue it down in the back. Now, use tapestry needle to poke two hoes in the front and through the back. Now, poke one hole in the top middle of the square, Insert you vintage earring posts into the hole and put the backs on. Now, insert a piece of floral wire through the top hole and attach the entire piece to your Christmas wreath.
Now, take your three inch wide black velvet ribbon. Tie it in a nice bow. To do this make two loops exactly the same size. Tie them in a knot. This will make an even bow. Now, slip some floral wire through the back of the knot. I like this floral wire to be at least 1 foot long.
Tie the floral wire onto the wreath at the top or the bottom. Use the extra length of floral wire to form a hook to hang the vintage jewelry wreath with. Just pull the two pieces of floral wire together. Fold them over in a loop.
Slip the end through the know of floral wire holding the wreath on. Tie in another knot leaving the loop free an exposed.
Now, this simple vintage jewelry Christmas wreath is perfect for a bathroom or bedroom. I do not recommend hanging it outside due to the environmental elements that could damage your vintage jewelry!
